Hyperion "Failed to activate license" error

Our Hyperion software requires an internet connection to activate the license associated with your Leap Motion Controller 2.

If you are getting a "Failed to activate license" error, please try each of the following steps in turn to troubleshoot the issue.

  1. Make sure you are connected to the internet, then try restarting the tracking service - to restart the service right-click the Ultraleap system tray icon and click "Restart Service").

  2. If this still hasn't worked, the license response may be being blocked by your firewall. You can try turning off your firewall briefly while you restart the tracking service, or follow these steps to create an inbound rule in Windows Defender Firewall:

    1. Open the Start menu and search for "command prompt”. Right-click it and “Run as administrator”.

    2. Paste the following command into the command prompt and press enter:
      netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="Ultraleap" dir=in action=allow program="C:\Program Files\Ultraleap\TrackingService\bin\LeapSvc.exe" enable=yes

    3. Now restart your computer and check if tracking has activated by opening the Ultraleap Control Panel by double-clicking the Ultraleap icon in the system tray.

  3. Try generating the licenses again by going to C:\ProgramData\Ultraleap\HandTracker and deleting the following, then restart the tracking service.

    1. Hyperion_Leap2.tok

    2. HYPM0-<serial_number>.lic

    3. license_keys.json

  4. If none of the above works, you can try and activate your camera on a different PC. If it successfully activates, you can copy the files Hyperion_Leap2.tok, HYPM0-<serial_number>.lic, and license_keys.json onto your problematic PC at this location C:\ProgramData\Ultraleap\HandTracker.

If you are still experiencing problems, please get in contact with support@ultraleap.com.
